About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to join a healthcare team in Oxnard, California, for a 13-week contract assignment.
The ideal candidate will provide high-acuity nursing care to critically ill patients who require continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and close clinical attention. This role requires strong critical-thinking skills, excellent assessment abilities, and the confidence to respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
Perform detailed head-to-toe assessments and continuously monitor patient condition.
Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygen saturation, neurological status, and other critical parameters.
Recognize subtle and significant changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments according to provider orders and facility protocols.
Manage and monitor central lines, arterial lines, drains, catheters, and other critical-care equipment as applicable.
Monitor patients receiving vasoactive medications, anticoagulants, sedatives, analgesics, and other high-alert medications.
Assist with mechanical ventilation management and collaborate with respiratory therapy as required.
Monitor patients before and after procedures and provide appropriate post-procedure care.
Assist physicians and other providers with bedside procedures and critical interventions.
Respond promptly to emergencies, rapid responses, cardiac arrest, and other life-threatening situations.
Maintain accurate medication administration and clinical documentation.
Provide appropriate pain management, sedation monitoring, and comfort measures.
Maintain infection prevention, fall prevention, and patient safety standards.
Communicate changes in patient condition effectively during shift reports and handoffs.
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, CNAs, case managers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and care when clinically appropriate.
Assist with transfers, admissions, discharge planning, and coordination of care.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Follow facility policies, ICU protocols, nursing standards, and applicable regulations.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in California.
Minimum 2 years of recent ICU or critical-care nursing experience.
Strong critical-care assessment and clinical judgment skills.
Experience caring for high-acuity and medically complex patients.
Strong knowledge of cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring.
Experience with IV therapy, medication administration, and infusion management.
Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
Strong emergency response and prioritization skills.
Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork abilities.
Proficiency with electronic medical records.
Ability to work night shift on a 3×12 schedule.
Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements.
