Description:
This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.
The unit typically has 11 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2.
Common diagnoses include ARDS, Sepsis, Chronic Ventilation, ETOH Withdrawal, DKA, CRRT, Therapeutic Hypothermia, and IABP.
Line placements and intubations are routine.
Nurses will be required to titrate vasoactive, sedation, heparin, and insulin medications.
Charge Nurses or Nurse Shift Managers generally do not take patients but oversee operations.
Safety Attendants are available as needed but primary nursing is practiced.
Both Clientists and Intensivists are in-house 24/7.
Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7.
Equipment available includes ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP.
During the day, Nurses must be able to read and interpret EKG strips using Phillips monitors.
Self-scheduling is used, and schedules are published 4 weeks in advance.
Every other weekend is required.
Floating may be required to other critical care units but only within scope of practice.
Scrub color must be navy; under shirts must be navy, white, or black.
Optional scrub jackets must also be navy.
Pharmacy is in-house 24/7, with ICU pharmacy open during day shifts.
Shifts may be canceled up to 4 times during a 13-week assignment.
Charting is performed using the Cerner system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
Applicants must hold the necessary certifications and be capable of working in an acute care setting.
