Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled MS/ICU RN to join a high-acuity, fast-paced unit at a leading tertiary care hospital in Omaha, NE. This role involves caring for a diverse patient population across ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg levels, requiring strong critical thinking and adaptability.
⚠️ Important Requirements- Artificial nails are strictly prohibited (non-compliance may result in contract termination)
- Must pass a 90% score on an open-book exam during orientation (Pass/Fail)
Required Certifications- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- NIHSS – Required
Unit Details- Total Beds: 34
- Patient Population: Adults & Pediatrics (15+ years)
- Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1–2
- PCU: 1:4–5
- Med-Surg: 1:5–6
Common Diagnoses & Cases- Respiratory failure, ARDS, sepsis
- Stroke & neuro surgical patients
- Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump)
- Renal failure (CRRT)
- GI bleeds, general surgery cases
- Oncology-related surgeries
- Psych/overdose patients
Key Responsibilities- Manage critically ill patients across acuity levels
- Titrate drips (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, narcotics)
- Interpret telemetry (no monitor techs – RN reads strips)
- Assist with advanced monitoring:
- CVPs, A-lines, Swan-Ganz
- ICP monitoring
- Work with respiratory equipment (NC to ventilators)
- Collaborate during RRTs and Code Blue events
Equipment & Technology- Telemetry: Draeger monitoring system
- Advanced tools:
- EV-1000
- Zoll Thermoguard (hypothermia protocol)
- Belmont rapid transfuser
Support & Staffing- Charge Nurse available (responds to codes/RRTs)
- Patient Care Techs: 1:18 ratio
- Collaborative team including attendings, residents, and fellows
Scheduling & Requirements- Manager-created schedule (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other
- Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or as needed
- Floating: Required to all inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU)
Orientation- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
