Registered Nurse - Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) Job Summary

This is a critical care Registered Nurse opportunity within a specialized 6-bed Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. The unit provides advanced post-operative care for patients undergoing complex cardiovascular surgeries.

The ideal candidate will manage a high-acuity patient population, including those recovering from open-heart surgery ("fresh hearts"), experiencing cardiogenic shock, or requiring intensive monitoring for conditions such as abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). This role demands expert clinical judgment, advanced critical care skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill cardiothoracic surgical patients.
• Monitor and manage patients post-cardiac surgery, including those with "fresh hearts."
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Manage complex hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, and vasoactive infusions.
• Respond effectively to emergent situations and provide life-saving interventions.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and recovery.
• Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records using EPIC.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New York.
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU).
• Demonstrated experience caring for post-operative open-heart surgery patients ("fresh hearts").
• Prior travel nursing experience (for candidates residing outside a 75-mile radius).
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.
