Must-Have:
ACLS
BLS
TNCC or TCAR
NIH
6 hours total of stroke education (can be provided if needed)
EKG course completion (can be provided if needed)
Experience with patient ratio of 2-3:1
Description:
Start date is preferred within the next 3-5 weeks.
The nurse will be required to float to medical/surgical or telemetry if the ICU has low census, with patient ratios of 5-6:1.
36 or 48 hours per week may be considered.
Previous charge experience in an ICU setting is preferred.
Charting system experience required; prior experience with Cerner is preferred.
Experience in a community hospital setting is preferred.
Travel experience required.
Skills required include:
Arterial line management.
Assistance with chest tube insertion/removal.
BiPAP/CPAP management.
Blood product administration.
Care of ventilated patients.
Central line care/management.
Management of chronic/acute renal failure.
Continuous IV paralytics/neuro-muscular blockade.
Continuous IV sedation.
CVA/Acute stroke management.
Administration of emergency medications.
External ventricular drain (EVD) care.
Monitoring with FloTrac/Vigileo.
GI surgery care.
High flow nasal cannula (HFNC) management.
Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun.
Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring.
Infection prevention practices.
Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs).
Interpretation of dysrhythmias.
Isolation precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE).
IV insulin protocols.
Management of lumbar drains.
Management of dysrhythmias.
Care for patients with multi-system organ dysfunction/failure.
Experience in neuro intensive care unit settings is required.
Experience with phlebotomy is required.
PICC line management experience is required.
Post cardiac surgery care (not directly post-operatively) is expected.
Post craniotomy and post-neurosurgery management experience is required.
Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization/interventions.
Procedural sedation administration and monitoring experience is required.
Experience with sheath removal is required.
Experience caring for spinal cord injury patients is required.
Starting and maintaining IVs is expected.
Suctioning (endotracheal tube, nasal tube) experience is required.
Experience with titrating cardiac drips and vasoactive drips is required.
Experience with transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is preferred.
Experience caring for traumatic brain injury patients is required.
Ventilator management experience is required.
The unit may provide interdisciplinary support, including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary.
Patient age groups include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The daily census is approximately 15 patients with 20 available beds.
The unit participates in a weekend coverage program.
