Registered Nurse – ICU (Intensive Care Unit)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ICU setting with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 and 1:1
  • Titrate a wide range of vasoactive, sedation, and analgesic drips including Propofol, Levophed, Vasopressin, Heparin, Insulin, and others
  • Independently interpret cardiac monitor strips using GE monitoring equipment (no monitor techs on unit)
  • Care for complex patient populations including trauma, neuro-surgical, cardiac, sepsis, ARDS, and post-operative cases
  • Float between sister ICU units (Surgical ICU, Medical/Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU) as needed, as well as to telemetry at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio
  • Participate in self-scheduling while meeting weekend and holiday coverage requirements
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN licensure in good standing
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience, with at least 2 of those years in an ICU setting — no exceptions
  • Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) ICU care
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must successfully complete a UNA Dysrhythmia Exam prior to acceptance (maximum of 2 attempts)
  • Must pass a Simulation Lab skills assessment on Day 1 of orientation
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Prior experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center or large-volume ICU of similar size and acuity
  • Familiarity with ventilator management using Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPap, or Airvo equipment
  • Experience with advanced cardiac support devices such as IABP, Impella, ECMO, or Tandem Heart
  • Experience with CRRT management is a plus
