Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed ICU setting with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, managing diagnoses including sepsis, DKA, COPD, CVA, GI bleeds, and post-surgical recovery
Manage and titrate critical care drips including vasopressors (norepinephrine), sedation agents (Versed, Propofol), and parenteral nutrition
Read and interpret telemetry strips independently using GE monitoring systems; apply and maintain the ABCDE bundle
Collaborate with respiratory therapy (24/7 in-house) on ventilator management; must be comfortable with ventilated patients
Float to telemetry and medical-surgical floors as needed, accepting a full patient load of 4–5 patients; travelers are first to float
May be deployed to the ED to care for boarded ICU patients; if placed on standby, expected response time is 30 minutes
Required Qualifications
Active RN license valid in California
BLS and ACLS certification required
NIHSS certification required
Proficiency with Cerner EMR
Strong IV insertion and management skills required
Ability to float to telemetry and med-surg floors and manage a full patient assignment
Willingness to work 2 weekends per 4-week period and holidays per unit needs; no block scheduling or schedule accommodations available
Preferred Experience / Skills
CCRN certification preferred
Completion of a basic critical care course preferred
Experience managing DKA, hyperglycemia, and PCI cardiac service patients
Comfort with ventilator management and ABCDE bundle protocols
