Registered Nurse – Whole House Float (ICU / PCU / Med-Surg)

Contract | Nights | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Onsite
Key Responsibilities
- Float between ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical units based on staffing needs, which are re-evaluated every four hours; candidate may float up to two to three times per shift
- Provide direct patient care across all three unit types, maintaining competency with varying patient ratios (ICU 2:1, PCU 5:1, MS up to 7:1)
- Administer IV therapy, blood products, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Manage central lines, PICC lines, arterial lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and non-invasive airway support including CPAP, BiPAP, and ventilator management
- Perform cardiac monitoring and phlebotomy as required by unit assignment
- Document all patient care accurately using EPIC electronic health records
Required Qualifications
- Active Virginia state RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Minimum of two years of ICU experience in a large Level I or Level II facility
- Demonstrated comfort and competency working across ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical units with patient ratios of at least 1:5
- Proficiency with EPIC charting system
- Must be willing to work one holiday per 13-week contract period and meet weekend requirements (every other weekend or six weekend shifts per six-week scheduling block)
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel nursing experience, including first-time travelers who meet all clinical requirements
- Experience with Emerson or PleurEvac chest tube systems
- Familiarity with high-acuity stroke or trauma patient populations
