Job Opportunity – Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care (Surgical/Trauma) – Virginia
Start Date: October 19, 2026
Location: Northern Virginia
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week; 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period (weekend includes Saturday or Sunday for night shift contracts)
Assignment Duration: 13 weeks
Highlights:
- Intermediate care unit specializing in pulmonary, cardiac, and trauma patients requiring advanced airway management
- Patient population includes ventilated patients, tracheostomies, high flow oxygen, BiPAP/CPAP, and cardiac monitoring
- 22-bed unit with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Epic EMR system (accelerated or 2-day training provided based on experience)
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary support including respiratory services, IV teams, pharmacy, physical therapy, and rapid response teams
- Care for adult to geriatric patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, cardiac conditions, dysrhythmias, and medical/surgical overflow
Requirements:
- Active Virginia RN license or Compact license in hand at time of submission (required)
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Ventilator management experience (required)
- Cardiac telemetry background within the past year
- PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown work setting experience
- Epic EMR experience preferred (6+ months within past 12 months for accelerated training; otherwise 2-day training required)
- Comprehensive respiratory proficiency including high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, BiPAP/CPAP, and ventilator care
- Skills in cardiac drip management, heparin protocols, central line and PICC line care, pre/post cardiac catheterization, and dysrhythmia management
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- COVID-19 and influenza vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered per CMS guidelines)
Clinical Skills Include:
- Management of ventilated patients and advanced airway devices
- Tracheostomy care and management
- High flow nasal cannula and BiPAP/CPAP management
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management
- Cardiac drip administration and titration
- Central line, PICC line, and peripheral line management
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Traumatic brain injury care
- Isolation precautions and infection control
