Progressive Care Unit RN (PCU / Step-Down)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients who do not require ICU-level care, from admission through discharge including discharge planning
  • Care for patient populations including post-op surgical, pre/post PCI, pacemaker placement, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, and sepsis
  • Operate advanced medical equipment and manage patients with central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, multiple IVs, long-term stable ventilation, and CPAP/BiPAP support
  • Perform skilled patient assessment and intervention, recognizing and responding to potentially deteriorating conditions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes
  • Act as a clinical leader, assist with precepting staff, and provide direction to LPNs, CNAs, and ancillary staff as needed; complement the Medical Surgical unit when staffing needs arise
Required Qualifications
  • Current State of Montana RN Licensure (or ability to obtain)
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to operate advanced medical equipment including A-lines, invasive lines, chest tubes, and ventilatory support devices
  • Proficiency in basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation
  • Ability to manage common IV medications including Heparin, Diltiazem, Dobutamine (non-titrated), Lasix/Bumex, Amiodarone, and Dopamine (non-titrated)
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • ENPC and/or TNCC certification
  • Pediatric nursing experience
  • Experience with post-heart catheterization care and post-operative vascular surgery patients
