Schedule / Job Type
Contract | Nights | Onsite | 32-Bed Stepdown Unit | 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday, Sunday, Saturday rotation) | Holiday coverage required as needed
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to post-surgical thoracic and medical stepdown patients with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 (stepdown) or 1:4 (combination assignments)
Titrate drips per physician orders, including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Heparin, and Lasix
Interpret and document patient cardiac rhythms every 4 hours or more frequently during medication titration, utilizing both bedside and centralized telemetry monitors
Manage patients requiring BiPAP and tracheostomy care (no mechanical ventilators on unit)
Collaborate with charge nurse, house supervisors, and CNA support staff (3–4 CNAs per shift) to ensure safe, high-quality patient care
Complete 3 shifts of unit-specific orientation upon assignment start
Required Qualifications
Active RN license valid in West Virginia or compact state equivalent
Current BLS and ACLS certifications (both required)
Strong MedSurg Stepdown experience with demonstrated ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac rhythms/strips
COVID-19 vaccination required (2-dose Moderna or Pfizer series, or single-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review
Valid driver's license with an address located more than 50 miles from the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience caring for post-surgical thoracic patients in a stepdown or PCU setting
Familiarity with centralized telemetry monitoring systems and EKG strip documentation workflows
Experience managing patients on BiPAP or with tracheostomies
