Provide direct patient care in a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), maintaining a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio for Stepdown and 1:5–6 for EMU patients
Care for higher-acuity neuroscience patients including those with strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EVDs, utilizing NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessments
Monitor and manage patients on titratable and set-rate drips per physician orders and unit protocols (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Insulin, Lasix, Bumex)
Collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for patients on floor ventilators; RNs are not required to independently manage ventilators
Monitor telemetry on the unit; strip reading is not required of RNs
Participate in weekend rotation (every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule) and holiday rotation as required; float as needed to designated units
Required Qualifications
Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license; any license history issues must be disclosed at time of submission
Strong, demonstrated Neuro nursing experience with a history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale assessments
BLS certification required; NIHSS certification required and must be in hand at time of submission
Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
COVID-19 vaccination required (2-dose Moderna or Pfizer series, or single-dose J&J); medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted promptly for review
Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification preferred
Experience with External Ventricular Drains (EVDs) preferred
Familiarity with Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) patient population is a plus
