Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a flex unit serving both medical-surgical floor and stepdown patients, adapting to patient and hospital census needs
- Manage nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 (stepdown) and up to 6:1 (med-surg floor) based on unit assignment
- Titrate drips per physician orders, including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
- Monitor and manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators (stepdown level); escalate vent setting changes to ICU as appropriate
- Collaborate with Clinical Associates (CAs), charge RNs, and house supervisors to ensure safe, efficient patient care across all shifts
- Expect to float to other floor or stepdown units as needed; agency RNs are first to float
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure in good standing
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system (required)
- Ability to manage both med-surg (up to 6 patients) and stepdown (up to 3 patients) assignments
- Experience or demonstrated competency with titratable drip management
- Willingness to work weekend shifts as a condition of the contract position
- Availability to work approximately half of all recognized holidays
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a stepdown, PCU, or IMC setting with a diverse medical patient population
- Familiarity with Philips telemetry monitoring equipment
- Experience working with respiratory support equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
