Contract | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Every Other Weekend Required
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care on a combined medical, neuro, neurosurgical, general/trauma surgical, and trauma stepdown unit with a 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
Manage a wide range of complex diagnoses including COPD, CHF, sepsis, stroke, seizures, DKA, GI bleeds, end-stage renal disease, and post-operative conditions
Titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors
Care for patients requiring tracheostomy and mechanical ventilator management, as well as chest tubes, PICC lines, central lines, arterial lines, BiPAP, CPAP, and NG/G-tubes
Confirm telemetry strip interpretations in collaboration with telemetry technicians using Philips bedside monitors
Float as needed to ICU, other Stepdown units, or General Med floors based on staffing needs and experience level
Required Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
BLS certification required
Minimum of ICU or Intermediate/Stepdown RN experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1 — progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
Tracheostomy and mechanical ventilator experience required
Ability to independently titrate drips and manage high-acuity patients
Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification (recommended)
Experience with Epic EMR
Prior experience caring for neurosurgical patients, including post-op craniotomy and lumbar drain management
Extensive ICU background preferred for candidates who may be floated to the ICU
