Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care in a 20-bed Stepdown unit at a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1, managing a wide range of complex medical conditions including COPD, CHF, sepsis, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, and respiratory conditions
Manage and titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and Vasopressors
Care for patients requiring advanced airway management including tracheostomies, ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, and face mask ventilators
Manage invasive lines and tubes including chest tubes, G-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
Confirm telemetry strip interpretations in collaboration with on-unit telemetry technicians using Philips bedside monitors
Float to ICU, other Stepdown units, or General Med as needed, assuming appropriate patient assignments per level of care
Required Qualifications
Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
BLS certification required
Minimum ICU or Intermediate/Stepdown experience with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 2:1 — progressive care or telemetry experience alone is not sufficient
Tracheostomy and ventilator experience required
Must be able to titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips independently
Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy
Preferred Experience / Skills
ACLS certification (recommended)
Experience with neuro, surgical, and cardiac patient populations
Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records system
Experience with block scheduling in a travel or contract nursing capacity
