Registered Nurse – IMC / PCU / Stepdown (Surgical PCU)

Contract | Nights | 4x12-Hour Shifts | 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block) | One holiday required per 13-week contract
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a surgical progressive care / stepdown unit that serves as a step-down from the General Surgical ICU, including bariatric specialty patients and backup coverage for the trauma unit
- Monitor and manage cardiac rhythms via remote telemetry and respond to dysrhythmias; activate Rapid Response and Code teams as indicated
- Administer IV medications including cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine) without titration responsibilities
- Provide ventilator care and respiratory support for chronic trach patients, including CPAP and BiPAP management
- Manage complex equipment including chest tubes, surgical drains, PICC lines, ortho equipment, and endoscopic tools
- Float within skillset to other PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active Virginia state RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license considered only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent PCU, IMC, stepdown, or comparable acute care RN experience
- Demonstrated experience with ventilator care for chronic trach patients
- Proficiency with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- EPIC EMR experience required
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior experience in a bariatric or trauma-support stepdown environment
- Familiarity with telemetry sitting workflows and tele-monitoring systems
- Experience managing isolation precautions across varied acuity settings
