Job Title

Registered Nurse – IMC/PCU/Stepdown (Surgical PCU)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | Weekend requirement applies (every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block) | One holiday required per 13-week contract

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care in a surgical progressive care/stepdown unit that functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, including bariatric specialty care and backup to the trauma unit
  • Manage ventilator care for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level) and provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Administer and monitor IV drips including cardiac medications (no titration required) and perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Perform cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia recognition, and emergency response including Rapid Response and Code team activation
  • Operate and manage unit equipment including ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters
  • Maintain isolation precautions and float within skillset to comparable PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown settings as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Active Virginia State RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license considered only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Ventilator experience required (chronic trach patient population)
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records
  • Experience in PCU, stepdown, IMC, or DOU nursing settings
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with bariatric or surgical patient populations
  • Familiarity with remote telemetry monitoring environments
  • Prior travel nursing experience welcomed; first-time travelers accepted
