The RN in IR plays a critical role in ensuring patient safety, assisting with procedures, monitoring patient conditions, and providing post-procedural care. This role requires knowledge of radiology, surgical techniques, and a strong ability to manage patients undergoing invasive procedures.

• Pre-Procedural Care:

  • Assess and prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures by reviewing medical history, lab results, and imaging studies.
  • Educate patients and families about the procedure, including what to expect, potential risks, and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Ensure that the patient has the appropriate informed consent for the procedure and address any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Administer pre-procedural medications, such as sedatives, pain relievers, or contrast agents, as prescribed.
  • Assist in preparing the patient for the procedure, ensuring that all necessary equipment and materials are available.

• Assisting During Procedures:
