Job Title: Interventional Radiology Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Interventional Radiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year in critical care, emergency, cath lab, or interventional radiology; preferred 3 years of experience in interventional radiology or cath lab. License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS required; preferred certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty (e.g., RCIS, NIH Stroke Scale). Description: The Interventional Radiology/Cardiology RN provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive interventional procedures. This includes procedures such as angiography, embolization, and cardiac catheterization. The RN works collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. He/she is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned. The RN may be on call for the Interventional Unit as needed. The RN is responsible to the Unit Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, or RN Team Leader. Essential Job Functions: Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure. Administer medications as ordered, including anticoagulants, vasoactive agents, and emergency drugs. Maintain sterile technique and assist with procedures as needed. Act as patient advocate and anticipate the needs of the interventionalist. Recognize and respond rapidly to complications such as arrhythmia, bleeding, or cardiac arrest. Collaborate with team members to address and manage contrast allergies or sensitivities. Participate in discussions regarding appropriate contrast agents before procedures. Verify ASA classification and consult anesthesia for high-risk patients. Provide moderate sedation and monitor vital signs, hemodynamics, and level of consciousness. Function as the scrub technologist, using sterile techniques to assist physicians during procedures. Prepare and organize sterile instruments and materials. Anticipate physician needs and respond quickly during critical moments. Monitor hemodynamic data, pressures, and procedural events. Document all supplies used, implants, and procedural details accurately. Assist with patient preparation and positioning for procedures. Verify allergies, NPO status, and renal function collaboratively with the clinical team. Perform patient identification, procedure verification, and timeout processes. Assist with managing supplies and ensuring room turnover efficiency. Help ensure devices are cleaned, charged, and stored properly.
