Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) – 26-Week Night Contract in Charlotte, NC
Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse contract opportunity in Charlotte, North Carolina, with a high-acuity, high-volume women’s services team. Make a meaningful impact during some of the most important moments in patients’ lives while caring for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and obstetrical triage patients, including scheduled and emergency cesarean births. Labor & Delivery RN Contract Details

- Contract Length: 26 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:45 p.m.–7:15 a.m.
- Shifts per Week: 3
- Hours per Week: 36
- Openings: 2
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Patient Population: Neonates, adolescents, and adults
- Patient Ratio: Approximately 2:1
- Weekend Commitment: Six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
- Call: None
- Floating: May float within the women’s services area, including high-risk obstetrics
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience; 3 years is strongly preferred
- Recent experience in a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit supporting more than 300 births per month
- Experience caring for high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients
- Competency with circulating for cesarean births and providing immediate newborn care
- Proficiency with sterile vaginal examinations, obstetrical triage, oxytocin challenge testing, IV therapy, pain management, and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Current BLS certification
- AWHONN Intermediate and Advanced certification
- Current NRP certification
- C-EFM may be accepted in place of AWHONN Advanced certification
- Experience with Epic electronic documentation is required
- Active North Carolina or Compact nursing license; pending licensure may be considered for submission
- Ability to work in a very fast-paced, high-acuity environment and manage multiple labor assignments
- Must be willing to float within the women’s services area as needed
Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to obstetrical patients from 16 weeks’ gestation and beyond, including high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients
- Monitor labor progression, fetal and maternal status, and response to treatment
- Perform obstetrical triage, assessments, sterile vaginal examinations, and ongoing reassessments
- Care for patients undergoing scheduled and unscheduled cesarean births and rescue cervical cerclage procedures
- Circulate for cesarean procedures and support the immediate care and stabilization of newborns
- Administer medications and IV therapies, including oxytocin, while monitoring for therapeutic response and complications
- Recognize and respond promptly to obstetrical and neonatal emergencies, including fetal or infant arrest
- Document care accurately in Epic and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other support departments
- Maintain a safe, compassionate, and patient-centered environment during high-volume periods
