RN – Labor & Delivery | High-Risk OB
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join a fast-paced, high-acuity Labor & Delivery/OB unit. The ideal candidate should have strong high-risk obstetric experience, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to work independently in a busy environment.
This position requires a confident L&D RN who is comfortable managing high-risk OB patients, performing comprehensive assessments, and caring for patients undergoing C-sections.
Unit Details
- Department: Labor & Delivery
- Total Beds: 14
- 5 triage/inpatient beds
- 6 labor beds
- 2 OR beds
- EMR: Meditech and GE
- Nurses are required to document in both systems
- Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines
- Scrubs: Provided by the hospital
Required Education & Certifications
- BSN – Required
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Required
- NRP – Required
- RN-C – Preferred
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong high-risk L&D experience – Required
- Experience caring for high-risk OB patients
- Strong clinical assessment skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments independently
- Experience with C-section patients
- Strong triage and labor-management skills
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills
Patient Population
The unit cares for a variety of obstetric patients, including:
- High-risk OB patients
- C-section patients
- Antepartum patients
- Magnesium Sulfate patients
- Laboring patients requiring close monitoring
- Triage/inpatient OB patients
Low-risk antepartum patients are managed on the OB side rather than the L&D side, while Magnesium Sulfate patients are managed on L&D.
Surgical & Procedural Experience
- C-sections are performed on the unit
- RN experience with C-section patients is required
- Nurses perform their own patient examinations and full assessments
- IUPC insertion is not performed by RNs in this department
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Generally does not take a patient assignment
- Unit Leader available approximately 3 days per week
- Nurse aide support available
- Scrub Techs available to assist with procedures
- IV Team: No
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Pharmacy: 24/7
- Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage available in-house approximately 3 nights per week
Schedule
- Shift: Nights
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Weekend Commitment: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- For night shift, weekend coverage is Friday and Saturday nights
Floating Requirements
Travelers may be asked to provide support in:
Floating will generally be task-based, and travelers will not be assigned their own patient load while floating.
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: Approximately 2–3 shifts
Parking & Vaccination Requirements
- Parking costs a minimum of $1.25 per hour
- Flu vaccination is required
- No exemptions or exceptions are accepted for the flu vaccine requirement
