Job Summary Labor and Delivery Nurse in the Womens Center department is responsible for providing specialized care to women during labor, delivery, postpartum, and in the well-newborn and special care nursery. This role involves ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and baby through expert clinical practice and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Job Details
Certifications, Education Requirements, Degree Requirements, Location Requirements, and Years of Experience: BLS, ACLS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); minimum of 2 years of experience interpreting fetal monitor strips and participating in vaginal deliveries and immediate newborn care; license to submit required.
Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
Responsibilities include providing care during labor, delivery, postpartum, well-newborn, and special care nursery procedures, operating equipment such as electronic fetal monitoring and central fetal monitoring, and documenting care using electronic charting systems (EPIC and OBIX).
The unit maintains a staffing ratio of 1:2-3 for mother/baby couplets, with in-house OB-trained staff available at all times.
Orientation includes a new hire safety program, equipment competency skills, and chart training, totaling 2-3 days depending on experience.
The role requires float to general medical units if census mandates, primarily covering a 12-bed unit with triage, labor, postpartum, and gynecological surgical patients.
Required certifications include ACLS, BLS Certification, and NRP.
The candidate must have prior experience working in labor and delivery, with at least two years of relevant clinical practice.
