Job Summary:
The labor and delivery specialty position is based in a rural healthcare facility located in Dickinson, North Dakota. This role involves providing care in a maternity unit with four designated labor and delivery beds and seven postpartum beds. The position requires a committed healthcare professional to support high-quality maternal and neonatal care, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications; minimum of 2 years of experience in labor and delivery.
  • Common diagnoses/types of patients: Expectant mothers past 35 weeks of gestation in labor, mother-baby couplets.
  • Patient care responsibilities: Managing labor, postpartum, and antepartum patients; titrating drips such as magnesium, oxytocin, LR, Zofran; troubleshooting neonatal vent equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow systems.
  • Additional staffing notes: Charge nurse on each shift who may take assignments; self-scheduling with block scheduling; every third weekend and holidays as needed.
  • Orientation: Three 12-hour shifts; additional notes highlight the importance of teamwork, provider consistency, independence, and good communication skills.
  • Float: Floating to MSP/ED for support, primarily sitting with patients.
  • Other information: This is a rural hospital located more than one hour from the neonatal intensive care unit, with limited services available. The facility follows AWHONN (Association of Womens Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) guidelines for patient ratios and staffing.

Additional Notes: Candidates must be prepared for facial hair testing requirements due to fit testing protocols; the position involves collaborative work with surgery staff for cesarean sections; and candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the organization. RTO (Request for Time Off) requests must be made upfront for up to 7 days within a 13-week contract, with no additional RTO approvals thereafter.
