Job Summary:
The labor and delivery specialty in Long Beach, California, involves providing advanced care in a high-volume maternity unit. This role focuses on standard labor management, high-risk cases, multiples, vacuum-assisted deliveries, and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) patients. The position offers night shift coverage within an acute care setting supporting mother/baby, postpartum, and triage services.

Job Details:

  • Location: Long Beach, California
  • Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (06:30 PM 07:00 AM)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend; shifts are approximately 36 hours per week
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) from AHA, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) from AHA, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN)
  • Required Qualifications: Certification in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring; circulating experience in Cesarean sections; a minimum of 2 years of obstetric nursing experience; licensed to submit credentials.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years obstetric nursing experience.
  • System: Cerner electronic medical records system.
  • Charge Nurse Role: Possible to take patient assignments.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Attending C-sections with baby-friendly initiatives, supporting standard labor, multiple births, high-risk cases, vacuum-assisted deliveries, and VBACs.
  • Resources & Support: 24-hour in-house Laborist, anesthesiologist, and neonatologist teams; OB technicians available for C-sections; no in-house neonatologist on call.
  • Floating: Postpartum floor float may be required after 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor.
  • Other Details: No responsible for strips on potential telehealth, and shared responsibilities with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) RN and respiratory therapists attending C-sections.
