Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience License: Active Registered Nurse license Certifications: - BLS - NRP - Fetal Monitoring training Must-Have: - Charge experience - Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother - Ability to receive and transition the newborn, including assessment - Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies - Fetal monitoring education - Experience with inductions (Pitocin, Cervidil) Description: The facility includes a total of 9 LDRP beds, 1 OBED bed, and 4 NICU beds along with 1 operating room suite. Patient ratios are as follows: 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, 1:3 for couplet care, 1:1 until stable for newborns, and 1:3 for intermediate care in NICU. Two NICU nurses must be present in the unit if there are patients in the NICU. There are no techs or unit secretaries available on the unit. Equipment includes central monitoring systems, IV pumps, infant warmers, telemedicine robots for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps. Documentation is done using Meditech and the central monitoring system. Scheduling requires full-time staff to work 3 shifts per week with rotating weekends and holidays. Staff may be expected to float within the facility as needed, with some cross-training between LDRP and NICU. Patient experience requirements include daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding. Procedures performed on the unit include C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps assisted deliveries. The unit consists of several seasoned, experienced registered nurses, each with approximately 30 years of experience. These nurses serve as excellent resources and preceptors for newer staff. There are also several other nurses with 7-10 years of experience who are competent and supportive team members. This position provides a valuable opportunity to gain experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonate care.
