The average number of annual deliveries is approximately 2000. The facility has eight private labor rooms and four private triage beds. Two operating rooms are designated for obstetric procedures. The unit cares for both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies. Low-risk pregnancies may include a certified nurse-midwife population. High-risk pregnancies include maternal-fetal medicine cases. Staffing ratios during nights are typically 1-2 patients per nurse. Weekend coverage is mandatory, requiring work every other weekend. Float requirements include cross-training to Mother/Baby and potential floating to the NICU. Nurses are expected to assist with various procedures, including cesarean sections and triage. Skills in recognizing and managing abnormal fetal heart rate patterns are essential. The environment includes interdisciplinary support for comprehensive patient care. Patient demographics consist of neonates and adults with diverse medical needs. High-risk diagnoses may include gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and maternal comorbidities. Nurses must be prepared to collaborate with multiple healthcare professionals in the unit. Safe management of infant feeding plans and medication administration is critical.
