Nurses in this role provide comprehensive care to mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and the postpartum period. This role is ideal for adaptable, skilled nurses who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Key responsibilities include providing care for laboring, delivering, and postpartum mothers and their newborns in a combined setting. You will manage continuous fetal monitoring and assist with both vaginal and cesarean deliveries. Deliver immediate newborn care, support breastfeeding, and provide patient education. Handle antepartum admissions, post-delivery recovery, and newborn assessments. Collaborate closely with providers and support staff. Complete accurate documentation and provide discharge teaching and follow-up education. The ideal candidate is proactive, confident in caring for both mothers and newborns, and a strong communicator who remains calm under pressure. This role requires the ability to handle unpredictable patient volumes and high-acuity cases, necessitating flexibility and quick critical thinking. Clear guidance will ensure a smooth transition into unit protocols and workflows. Extensions are common based on unit needs and nurse performance, with potential for permanent role conversion after assignment completion. Ongoing training is available in advanced fetal monitoring, high-risk antepartum care, procedures, and newborn resuscitation. Strong multitasking, critical thinking, and patient education skills are essential, along with a positive attitude and teamwork. Familiarity with obstetric and neonatal certifications is preferred, with training provided as needed.
