Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (Family Birthing Center)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Family Birthing Center in Salida, Colorado. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive care to laboring mothers, postpartum patients, and neonates in a supportive environment.
The successful candidate will independently assess patient health status, develop individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and providers, and implement interventions to ensure optimal outcomes. This position emphasizes patient education, advocacy, and maintaining a safe, effective care continuum throughout the birthing experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently assess and evaluate the health status of laboring and neonate patients using objective and subjective data.
- Collaborate with patients, families, providers, and the healthcare team to establish realistic and measurable short and long-term goals.
- Prioritize patient needs through effective planning and implementation of all interventions, including patient education and counseling.
- Provide direct patient care throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum phases of pregnancy.
- Assist and educate mothers on breastfeeding techniques and infant care.
- Promote maternal wellness through continuous education during pregnancy and after delivery.
- Maintain safe and effective care by instituting standard procedures and preventing serious complications in emergency situations.
- Evaluate and document care outcomes in the patient medical record, utilizing computer systems.
- Communicate patient conditions verbally and in writing to physicians and nursing supervisors.
- Collaborate with nursery nurses to ensure comprehensive care for mother/baby couplets.
- Assist physicians with various procedures as needed.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment within the Family Birthing Center unit.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Skills & Competencies
- Comprehensive patient assessment skills for laboring, postpartum, and neonatal populations.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing individualized patient care plans.
- Strong patient education and counseling abilities, particularly in breastfeeding and infant care.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations and stabilize patient conditions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration and documentation.
- Competency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and computer-based documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team.
- Strong patient advocacy skills.
Shift Details
- Shift Type: Night shifts (NOC).
- Shift Duration: 8-hour shifts.
- Days per Week: 5 days per week.
- Typical Shift Times: Shifts may fall within the 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM timeframe.

Licensing Requirements
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
