Job Summary
Join the dedicated team at Cayuga Birthplace in Ithaca, New York, a modern Maternal Child Health unit designed for comprehensive family-centered care. This unit features six Labor & Delivery rooms, two triage rooms, eleven Postpartum rooms, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with four single-family rooms, and an integrated C-Section Surgical Operating Room and PACU.
As a Registered Nurse on the Maternal Child Health team, you will provide direct patient care to a diverse population of mothers and newborns, ranging from uncomplicated deliveries to highly complex cases. This role involves cross-training across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and the NICU, ensuring a dynamic and enriching clinical experience. You will collaborate closely with unit leadership and a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional, person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, comprehensive patient care to mothers and neonates within the Maternal Child Health department.
- Adhere strictly to the scope of practice and professional standards set by governing bodies such as AWONN, ACOG, NNA, and AORN.
- Conduct thorough patient and family assessments, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized, person-centered care plans.
- Prioritize nursing care effectively for both expected and unanticipated patient needs.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision-making and problem resolution.
- Perform all required technical nursing skills with competence and precision.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
- Act as a clinical resource for peers and actively collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Facilitate patient and family access to other disciplines and services as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Demonstrated experience in Labor & Delivery.
- Ability to float to other hospital departments on a rotational basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Postpartum care.
- Cross-training or experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

- Clinical expertise in Maternal-Child Health nursing, including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Neonatal care.

- Shift Duration: 12 hours (6:45 AM - 6:45 PM)

- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Assignment Dates: August 30, 2026 – November 28, 2026
- Weekend Rotation: Expected, no maximum weekend requirement.
- Call Requirements: Not specified.
- Floating: Required on a rotational basis to other hospital departments outside Maternal Child Health (e.g., L&D, L&D OR/PACU, Postpartum, NICU).
- Scheduling: Based on unit needs; block scheduling is considered but not guaranteed. Specific day-of-week scheduling requests will not be accommodated.
