Description:
The Labor & Delivery unit has 7 labor and delivery beds, 2 triage beds, and 10 postpartum beds.
On average, the unit sees 1-3 births per day and approximately 830 births per year.
The nurse-to-patient ratios typically are 1:2.
The unit has respiratory therapy staff available 24/7.
Support staff includes patient care technicians and health unit secretaries.
Nurse managers may occasionally see patients as needed.
Nurses are required to have 3 or more years of experience.
Call is required for one shift per 4-week schedule.
Emergency resources include a 24/7 pharmacy and an OB/neonatologist available on-call.
Nurses need to handle OB emergencies independently until the provider arrives.
The ability to function in labor and delivery and couplet care is necessary.
Nurses may need to float to other units as needed.
Weekend shifts are required; a minimum of 3 weekend shifts is expected per 4-week schedule.
