Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 7 PM - 7 AM Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NRP AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certification Must-Have: 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience Experience in postpartum care Comfortable working with high-risk patients Ability to circulate in C-sections Epic experience preferred Description: The unit has 11 delivery rooms that also serve as triage rooms. There are 2 OR suites on the floor dedicated to C-sections. Two PACU Recovery Bays are available on the unit. Typically, 2 designated triage rooms are available. The unit averages 4-5 triage patients per day. The average number of deliveries is 5-6 per day, totaling 150-180 deliveries per month. Staff follows established staffing guidelines for patient ratios. 1:1 ratios are maintained for intrapartum care. Antepartum care is provided with 1:1-3 ratios. Postpartum care utilizes ratios of 1:3-4. Experience with titratable drips is required, including Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin. Charge nurses do not take patient assignments unless absolutely necessary. A resource nurse is designated to assist with staffing needs when possible. Nursing management is present on both shifts but not onsite 24/7. Certified surgical techs are available in-house 24/7. Certified nursing assistants support postpartum areas. OBs are available during the day, with on-call availability at night. Neonatologists are onsite during the day with APP coverage at night. Anesthesia is available in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy services are available around the clock. Telemetry technicians are present, and registered nurses should be able to identify basic rhythms. The electronic fetal monitoring system is integrated with the charting system. Scheduling is managed 6 weeks in advance, with potential for block scheduling, though not guaranteed. Weekend and holiday shifts may be required, with flexibility on specific days. Floating between departments may occur based on staffing needs. Nurses are expected to wear navy blue scrubs. Job duties may include working with high-risk patients, assisting with deliveries, and supporting care in postpartum areas. Staffing decisions prioritize a collaborative work environment.
