Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (5:00 PM - 5:30 AM) Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring) Must-Have: Labor management, OR circulation, PACU recovery Description: Drivers license is required. The unit includes labor, delivery, postpartum, and maternal-baby care. There are 7 L&D beds on the unit. The unit has 1 primary OR suite and 1 backup suite located adjacent to the unit. There are 2 triage rooms and 2 NST beds available. The unit has 15 postpartum beds. There are approximately 770 births per year. AWHONN guidelines are followed for ratios. RNs are required to have BLS, ACLS, and EFM certifications. Common diagnoses include labor management and outpatient testing. RNs must titrate drips, including Oxytocin, Insulin, and Magnesium. A charge nurse is assigned each shift and carries a patient assignment. There is a scrub tech assigned to the unit each shift. The scrub tech assists with deliveries, stocks rooms, and helps with repositioning. An OB is on call with offices in the building, and a pediatrician is in-house 24/7. Anesthesia services are available 24/7. Respiratory therapies such as Vents, CPAP, BiPap, and High Flow are available and managed by respiratory therapists. RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment as needed. There are no monitor techs for labor patients; RNs read their own strips. The tele monitors used are GE brand. The EFM system utilized is Periwatch. Shifts are from 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM. The department allows self-scheduling with rotating weekends. Every other weekend is required. Holidays are observed every third holiday. There is no call requirement, but standby may be possible for scheduled shifts if volume is low. Labor RNs may be floated to postpartum patients if volume is low. Client-supplied scrubs are required. There are 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation. This facility is designated as a level 2 trauma center. The care setting is acute nursing.
