Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour nights Hours per Shift: 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience required License: Required Certifications: - ACLS - BLS - NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - STABLE Must-Have: - 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience preferred - Mother-baby experience preferred - Ability to attend deliveries and complete newborn care - Experience with magnesium titration Description: The unit comprises 14 rooms where patients stay for labor, delivery, and recovery. There are 2 operating rooms for C-sections, where RNs will circulate and recover patients. The unit has 4 triage beds, with travelers staffing as necessary. Recently, the unit has had an average of 90 births per month, equating to around 1,200 per year. The unit follows established staffing standards with a 1:1 labor nurse ratio, unless pairing cervical ripening patients. Postpartum care follows a 1:3 couplets care model, while triage is staffed at a 1:3 ratio, utilizing a resource nurse when necessary. Common patient diagnoses include those with gestational ages of 32 weeks and above, hypertension requiring magnesium, and some gestational diabetes. The unit serves a diverse population with various needs and experiences. Charge nurses do not take assignments, as an administrative supervisor is present on every shift, along with resource and triage RNs. The resource nurse assists with breaks and attends all deliveries, providing stabilization and assessment care. There is one CST and one CNA scheduled per shift, although staffing may vary. An OB hospitalist and a neonatal nurse practitioner are present 24/7, along with anesthesia services. The unit utilizes telemonitoring capabilities, and while RNs may read strips, they typically transfer patients needing greater care. Self-scheduling is not guaranteed, and weekend and holiday requirements are based on unit and staffing needs. There is no call or standby requirement for this position, and travelers may float to various sites. Healthcare scrubs are hospital-issued and must be changed at the beginning and end of shifts. The facility has a policy against fingernail lacquer, acrylic, or gel nails due to health protocols. Traveling pairs will require two vehicles as staff may float to different locations during shifts.
