Description:
The unit has 10 Labor & Delivery beds and 2 operating rooms.
There are 2 triage beds and 18 postpartum beds.
The facility averages 130 births per month.
Nurse ratios are 1:1 close to delivery, 1:2 otherwise, and 1:4 for couplets in postpartum.
The fetal monitoring system used is Obix.
The electronic medical record system is Cerner.
Charge nurse duties are shared between Labor & Delivery and postpartum.
Scrub techs are available in Labor & Delivery.
Weekend requirements involve 4 shifts in a 4-week period.
There are no call requirements.
Holidays include 1 major and 1 minor holiday.
Major RN holidays are Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s.
Scrub colors are provided.
There are no telemetry or vent patients, and no OB/neonatologist is in-house.
The pharmacy is available 24/7, and respiratory therapy is also available 24/7.
Shifts consist of 7 AM, 11 AM, and 7 PM.
Common diagnoses include patients delivering as early as 23 weeks and some high-risk cases.
There is perinatology support for known cardiac abnormalities.
Floating is required to postpartum, but typically does not interchangeably occur.
Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts.
The Labor & Delivery unit has the biggest need for staffing.
Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled per 13-week assignment.
