Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS Certification, COVID Vaccine Required, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Must-Have: C-section experience required; circulating for C-sections, scrubbing experience preferred Description: Unit has 14 labor and delivery beds and 6 triage beds. There are 2 OR suites and 28 postpartum beds. The unit averages 250 births per month. Certifications required are ACLS, BLS, Fetal Monitoring, and NRP for postpartum. Ratios are 2:1 for laboring patients, following guidelines, and 1:4 for couplet care. The fetal monitoring system used is Fetal Link, and the EMR is Cerner. Charge nurses typically do not take a patient assignment. There are OB techs available on day and night shifts. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, with no call requirement, but may require standby. Holidays are assigned with the regular staff rotation. Scrub colors include navy for postpartum, with seal blue provided for OB techs and labor and delivery nurses. There are no vents on-site, but an OB/Neonatologist is available if needed. There is no IV team, but respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7. Nurses work 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM. C-section experience is required for circulating, with scrubbing experience preferred. Nurses will float to postpartum as needed, but postpartum staff will not float to labor and delivery. Orientation includes 3 shifts specific to the floor. Common diagnoses include any gestational age, antepartum and high-risk deliveries, substance abuse issues, pre-eclampsia, and insulin-dependent diabetics. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using the Cerner system.
