Job Summary
As a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor & Delivery at Altru Hospital in Devils Lake, North Dakota, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to expectant mothers, new mothers, and newborns. This role involves managing patients through the labor and delivery process, providing postpartum care, and ensuring the well-being of neonates in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
You will be responsible for conducting thorough patient assessments, developing individualized care plans, and implementing nursing interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. A key aspect of this role includes patient education, facilitating safe discharges, and collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, identify early warning signs of patient deterioration, and respond promptly to emergent situations, contributing to a high standard of patient safety and satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily patient rounds, ensuring quality customer service and addressing patient needs promptly.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care based on comprehensive patient assessments, considering physical, psychological, social, educational, developmental, and rehabilitative needs.
- Assess patient conditions and nursing needs, establish goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions, including discharge planning.
- Assess, intervene, and reassess patient self-reported pain and symptoms promptly, taking appropriate action according to standard operating procedures.
- Identify early warning signs of changes in patient condition, respond appropriately to deteriorating patients, and assist with or institute emergency measures as needed.
- Report pertinent patient observations and reactions to the multidisciplinary team, ensuring timely interventions and accurate documentation.
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and significant individuals, utilizing educational opportunities.
- Initiate discharge planning, education, and counseling early in the patient's stay to optimize understanding and ensure safe transitions of care.
- Assign or delegate nursing interventions to other qualified personnel within their scope of practice, education, and experience.
- Complete and submit all incident reports (patient, visitor, staff) prior to the completion of each shift.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
