Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NRP Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Experience in Labor and Delivery, recovery, postpartum, and women's health patients. Ability to care for high-risk OB patients. Familiarity with electronic medical records systems. Description: The role involves caring for Labor and Delivery, recovery, postpartum, and women's health patients. Nurses will manage the recovery of newborns as well. High-risk obstetrics is a significant focus of this unit, with the transfer of patients for major maternal or fetal complications. The unit comprises 18 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum rooms plus 6 triage spaces. It also includes 8 shared beds for overflow care and 2 operating rooms. Nurses must self-circulate during procedures. Certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and advanced fetal monitoring are required. Patient ratios follow state guidelines at 4 to 1 for couplets and 2 to 1 for Labor and Delivery. A second NRP nurse is present at every delivery. Nurses will be responsible for starting their own IVs. There is 24/7 in-house OB and anesthesia coverage. A team of respiratory therapists and pharmacy staff are available 24/7. Nurses may be placed on standby as needed with a response time of 30 minutes if called in. All nurses will float between L&D, postpartum, cesarean sections, and women's health. Training includes a baseline orientation of 3 shifts. The unit operates under strong perinatal safety initiatives and focuses on evidence-based practices. Common patient encounters will include high-risk deliveries and postpartum care. The facility promotes immediate skin-to-skin contact for newborns and breast-feeding initiation. A lactation store is available on campus. The unit aims to reduce the number of low-risk primary cesarean sections and conducts regular chart audits. Nurses will follow strict protocols involving maternal health screenings and management of pre-eclampsia.
