Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Family Birthing Center in beautiful Salida, Colorado. This role offers the unique opportunity to work in a scenic location while providing essential care to our community.

The Labor & Delivery RN is responsible for independently assessing and evaluating the health status of both laboring mothers and neonate patients. You will utilize objective and subjective data to identify healthcare problems, collaborate with patients, families, and providers to establish realistic care goals, and implement comprehensive interventions, including patient education and counseling.

This position requires a commitment to maintaining safe and effective care throughout the entire episode of care, from stabilizing patient conditions to preventing complications in emergency situations. The RN acts as a vital patient advocate, continuously evaluating and documenting care outcomes to ensure optimal health for mothers and their newborns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently assess and evaluate the health status of labor and neonate patients using objective and subjective data.
  • Identify healthcare problems and collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to establish measurable short and long-term goals.
  • Prioritize patient needs through effective planning and implementation of interventions, including patient education and counseling.
  • Directly provide patient care and monitor the patient's response during labor, delivery, and postpartum phases of pregnancy.
  • Assist and educate mothers on breastfeeding techniques and infant care.
  • Promote wellness for mothers during pregnancy and after delivery through continuous education.
  • Maintain safe and effective care through the institution of standard procedures and prevention of serious complications in emergency situations.
  • Evaluate and document all interventions and patient education in the medical record utilizing computer systems.
  • Communicate patient conditions verbally and in writing to physicians and nursing supervisors.
  • Collaborate with nursery nurses in the care of mother/baby couplets.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures.
  • Assist other Family Birthing Center staff in maintaining skills and learning new procedures and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients within the FBC unit.
  • Assist staff with emergencies in other nursing units when possible.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Skills & Competencies
  • Proficient in comprehensive patient assessment for laboring mothers and neonates.
  • Strong ability in care planning, goal setting, and implementing nursing interventions.
  • Expertise in patient and family education, including breastfeeding support and infant care.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially in emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) documentation.
  • Ability to act as a patient advocate.
  • Competence in assisting physicians with various procedures.
