Description:
The unit has 10 delivery beds and 2 operating rooms for C-sections.
There are 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds available.
On average, there are about 120 births per month.
Patient-to-nurse ratios follow established guidelines, primarily 1:1 in L&D and 1:6 for couple care in postpartum.
RNs are required to titrate drips, commonly Pitocin and magnesium.
A Charge Nurse, Resource Nurse, and House Supervisor are present on each shift.
Certified Nursing Assistants are available on the floor, along with unit clerks 24/7.
An OB hospitalist and midwives are on call 24/7, with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Neonatologist available as needed.
An anesthesia provider is also on site 24/7.
There are no Tele/Monitor Technicians on this unit.
The electronic fetal monitoring system in use is GE Connect.
Shifts consist of 12-hour schedules with a maximum of five consecutive shifts per hospital policy.
Weekend and holiday requirements are based on unit needs.
Floating to similar units is required, with advance notice given when possible.
The dress code includes provided blue scrubs.
Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 4-6 shifts based on individual traveler customization.
Charting is completed using the EPIC system.
This position does not require a BSN.
