Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based care for laboring patients and postpartum mother-baby couplets
  • Monitor maternal and fetal status using advanced fetal monitoring and intervene as needed
  • Support safe deliveries as part of the delivery team (2 RNs and 1 RT during deliveries)
  • Perform newborn stabilization and immediate care, including short-term O2 and antibiotic care when indicated
  • Act as charge nurse when scheduled, managing break relief and unit flow as required
  • Document clinical care accurately in Cerner EMR at the bedside
  • Collaborate with OB, anesthesia, RT and pharmacy teams for timely, coordinated patient care
  • Respond quickly and independently during emergencies; escalate and coordinate transfers when necessary

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Active RN license (California) required
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • Comfortable functioning independently and strong in emergency response
  • Ability to work every-other-weekend and participate in holiday rotation
  • Willingness to attend facility-wide orientation in Sacramento and complete unit preceptorship
  • Two supervisory references required at submittal (one within 12 months and one within 3 years); charge accepted

Education

  • Active RN license in California
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or BSN; BSN not required
  • Completion of required perinatal certifications listed in qualifications

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficient with Cerner EMR charting and bedside documentation
  • Skilled in couplet care, postpartum/mother-baby nursing, and newborn assessment
  • Experienced with labor management, fetal heart rate interpretation, and advanced fetal monitoring
  • Comfortable caring for standard L&D cases including term and preterm deliveries and general GYN patients
  • Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and participate in transfer processes for higher-acuity patients
  • Strong clinical judgement, independent decision-making, and effective communication under pressure
