Job Summary

Join a dynamic Maternal Child Health team at a leading facility in Ithaca, New York. The Cayuga Birthplace is a comprehensive unit featuring six Labor and Delivery Rooms, two Labor Triage Rooms, eleven Post Partum Rooms, a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with four single-family NICU rooms, and a dedicated Cesarean Section Surgical Operating Room and PACU within the Labor and Delivery Suite.

This Registered Nurse position is responsible for providing direct patient care to a diverse population within the Maternal Child Health department. The role involves working collaboratively with unit leadership to uphold the highest standards of nursing practice, focusing on the observation, data collection, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care for mothers, newborns, and mother/baby couplets. While staff are cross-trained across Labor & Delivery, Post Partum, and NICU, this traveler role will frequently staff Post Partum, requiring strong independent care capabilities for mother/baby couplets.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive direct patient care to patients within the Maternal Child Health department.
• Collaborate with unit leadership to ensure adherence to the scope of practice defined by nursing governing bodies such as AWONN, ACOG, NNA, and AORN.
• Conduct thorough patient and family assessments, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status.
• Develop and implement person-centered care plans, prioritizing patient and family needs and involving them in establishing care goals.
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical decision-making, proactively addressing potential and actual problems.
• Execute technical nursing skills required for the care of maternal child health patients and families.
• Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, linking patients and families with other disciplines
