Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery/Postpartum
Location: San Luis Obispo, CA

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating nights, 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM (12-hour night shifts), every other weekend required; EOW first to float between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum
Hours per Week: 36
Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert labor and delivery care including fetal monitoring and high-risk delivery support
- Circulate for C-sections and collaborate with surgical teams during operative births
- Deliver comprehensive postpartum care for mother and newborn, including teaching and discharge planning
- Perform advanced fetal heart monitoring and assess maternal-fetal status using Fetal Link
- Document care accurately and timely in Cerner to support continuity and safety
- Follow and advocate for patients’ birth plans while balancing safety and clinical judgment
- Collaborate with OB techs, RT, pharmacy teams, and on-call neonatology for excellent multidisciplinary care
- Participate in unit staffing practices that follow AWHONN guidelines and support patient ratios
Education
- BSN not required (facility indicates BSN not required); active RN license required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
- Experience with Fetal Link fetal heart monitoring system
- Comfort using Phillips telemetry
- Strong fetal monitoring / interpretation skills and advanced fetal monitoring knowledge
- Ability to manage high-risk obstetric cases and adhere to AWHONN guidelines
- Skilled in birth plan discussion and patient-centered care
- Teamwork and communication with OB/Neonatology, OB techs, RT, and pharmacy
- Ability to function as part of a structured unit with charge nurse support
