Schedule

Day Shift

6:45 AM – 7:15 PM

12-hour shifts.

They allow block scheduling, but NOT self-scheduling.

Weekends

Every other weekend

Holidays

Every other holiday

Call

Potential call depending on staffing.

This is important — I would not pitch this as a no-call job.

Biggest Screening Issues

1. Previous Travel Experience

The unit specifically lists:

Previous travel experience

as a must-have/experience that makes someone successful.

So unlike the Utah job, I would target an experienced traveler here.

2. Floating

This is probably the #1 thing I'd discuss with a candidate.

The traveler may float to:

  • MedSurg
  • ER
  • Anywhere else in the hospital where they're needed

The posting says:

"wherever in the hospital the nurse is needed."

They do say permanent staff are usually first to float, which is a positive.

But the traveler still needs to be comfortable floating.

This is definitely not a "stay exclusively in L&D" assignment.

Unit Setup

This is an LDRP model.

Total: 15 beds

  • 7 L&D beds
  • 8 Postpartum beds

There is:

1 OR on the unit

for C-sections.

Birth Volume

Approximately:

58 births/month

That's roughly 700 births/year.

So it's a fairly active L&D for a smaller hospital.

Patient Population

Primarily:

  • Obstetric patients
  • Neonates
  • Hypertension
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Postpartum
  • Labor/delivery

They generally try not to deliver patients under 36 weeks.

So you're not looking at a major tertiary high-risk OB population.

‍⚕️ Ratios

They follow AWHONN-style ratios:

Pitocin / Magnesium / Insulin

1:1

Mother/Baby

1:3 couplets

Those are good ratios.

Drips

The RN must be comfortable titrating:

  • Pitocin
  • Insulin
  • Magnesium

That's important.

This isn't an L&D position where the nurse can avoid drips.

Fetal Monitoring

Required

The nurse must be able to:

Read and interpret fetal strips independently.

They specifically emphasize this multiple times.

The EFM system is:

TraceView / PIP

And the posting separately lists:

Intermediate Fetal Monitoring

as a required certification.

️ EMR

Meditech

This is a major difference from several of the other jobs you've sent.

It's not Epic.

If your candidate has Meditech experience, that's a nice selling point.

Staffing / Support

Charge Nurse

Yes.

However, unlike some of your other jobs:

The charge nurse DOES take an assignment.

CNA

Yes.

CNA duties include:

  • Vitals
  • Transfer paperwork
  • Turning patients
  • Ambulation
  • Desk coverage when needed

That's good support, especially on nights/weekends.

NICU / Neonatal Support

This is not a Level III NICU environment like the Utah job.

OB/Neonatologist

Not in-house 24/7

Anesthesia

Not in-house 24/7

Respiratory

RT equipment is available.

The RN isn't expected to manage RT equipment beyond troubleshooting.

So I'd characterize this as a smaller community/critical-access OB environment, not a tertiary/high-risk OB center.

Trauma / Facility

CAH — Critical Access Hospital

That's worth mentioning because a nurse coming from a large Level I/III facility may find the environment considerably different.

This could be a positive for someone who likes a smaller hospital and more autonomy.

Scrubs

Maroon scrubs

Hospital provides the scrubs.

The RN changes into hospital surgical scrubs once on the unit.

Orientation

3 shifts

Unit-specific orientation is:

3 shifts

That's a reasonable amount for a traveler, but given the floating expectations, I'd want the nurse to be adaptable.

Certifications

The listing gives:

Required

  • BLS
  • Intermediate Fetal Monitoring

The unit notes say:

  • BLS required
  • ACLS preferred
  • NRP preferred
  • STABLE preferred

So:

BLS + Intermediate Fetal Monitoring = hard requirements

ACLS/NRP/STABLE = preferred

That's a nice distinction when screening candidates.

Radius Rule

50-mile radius

There is also a CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity employment restriction:

Candidate cannot have been:

  • Full-time
  • Part-time
  • PRN

with a facility associated with CommonSpirit / CHI / Dignity

within the previous 12 months.

I'd ask this early.

RTO — VERY IMPORTANT

RTO must be submitted upfront.

And:

Additional RTO will not be approved after submission.

So you need to get ALL requested time off before submitting.

I would specifically ask:

"Do you have any RTO between September 28 and February 1?"

Then get every date documented before submission.

A Recruiter Who Works For You My name is Sean, and I’m a U.S.-based travel nurse recruiter here in Denver, Colorado. I’ve been recruiting nurses for 10+ years, and one thing I’ve always believed in is that communication, transparency, and honesty are what make a great recruiter-nurse relationship. One thing I want nurses to know about Vivian: when you apply to jobs, you may be giving recruiters consent to submit you—even if you never actually speak with them. That’s not how I work. I will never submit one of my nurses without written or verbal consent. If you apply to one of my jobs, I want to make sure you know: • Where you are being submitted • The pay breakdown • The complete job details • What the facility is like, when I have previous experience or knowledge of it • What to expect during the interview process My job isn’t just to submit you and hope for the best. My job is to work for you, make sure you’re prepared, and help you land the right assignment. I’ll always give you the good, the bad, and the ugly about a job when I know it. I’d rather be upfront with you than tell you what you want to hear just to get a submission. If you’re looking for a recruiter who values communication, transparency, honesty, and actually picking up the phone, I’d love the opportunity to work with you. Feel free to apply to any of my jobs and send me a message. If you have questions about a position or don’t have a complete profile yet, just reach out. I’m happy to help. Also, if you have specific states or areas you’re targeting, let me know. I recruit nationwide and can help you find opportunities that fit what you’re looking for. 10+ years recruiting. One goal: Get my nurses the right job.
