Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Long Term Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active state license or confirmation that application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS required; ACLS preferred Must-Have: Experience with PEG tube care/feedings; CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care; tracheostomy patients Description: The unit has a total of 10 beds. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients. RNs will be required to titrate certain drips, such as Heparin. There is a house supervisor available 24/7 to support the nursing staff. Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit with a ratio of 1:10. RNs are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment, while respiratory therapists manage this equipment. Tele-monitoring is done by a monitor tech stationed in the ICU, but RNs are required to read their own strips. The facility uses tele packs for monitoring. Shifts are 12 hours long, from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. There is a weekend requirement for every other weekend and to fill any gaps in scheduling. Holiday rotations and filling gaps are also required. Qualified nurses may float to other departments as needed. Only approved scrubs are permitted, and staff may wear OSF-approved t-shirts in any color. Unit-specific orientation includes classroom instruction per policy and two shifts with a preceptor. The charting system utilized is EPIC.
