Position Summary

The Staff Nurse (RN) practices within the scope of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, high-quality, individualized nursing care. Drawing on clinical knowledge, the nursing process, and leadership skills, the RN incorporates carative factors of human care and performs procedures in accordance with organizational policies and standards. The RN coordinates family involvement in assessment, treatment, and continuing care, and delegates tasks to appropriate caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess each patient's biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, cultural, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs based on age and developmental status.
  • Utilize empathy, active listening, and cultural sensitivity; support and maintain patient dignity.
  • Develop and prioritize outcome-directed care plans; modify as patient needs evolve.
  • Perform clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and scope of practice.
  • Evaluate and modify nursing interventions with a focus on patient outcomes and developmental status.
  • Consult with physicians and healthcare providers to adjust care plans and assure optimum outcomes.
  • Document care accurately per departmental and organizational documentation standards.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Serve as mentor/preceptor to colleagues and other staff as required.
  • Utilize patient assessment findings and clinical judgment to safely support interventional radiology (IR) procedures alongside the Radiology Team and radiologist.
  • Provide pre-, intra-, and post-IR procedural care and monitoring.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in emergency drugs, moderate sedation, reversal agents, and contrast media reactions.
  • Competently support IR procedures including: abscess drain placement, aspiration, breast biopsy, chest tube placement, FNA, kidney/liver/lung/lymph node biopsy, lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and others.
  • Prepare rooms and position patients for procedures; adhere to radiation safety protocols.
  • Monitor and delegate tasks to allied healthcare professionals.
  • Adhere to downtime procedures and departmental policies.
  • Participate in professional development: educational programs, in-services, workshops, and seminars.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.
  • Associate degree from an accredited professional nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • BLS/CPR certification required; ACLS per unit-specific hospital requirements.
  • 0 1 years of RN experience required; new graduates encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to follow instructions and record information accurately.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program.
  • Experience with EMR/Cerner systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift and move patients, work various shift hours as operationally required, and perform duties in a physically demanding clinical environment.
