Travel Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio or a valid compact-state RN license
• At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience
• Acute-care hospital experience preferred
• Previous orthopedic nursing experience required
• Trauma nursing experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before providing direct patient care
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and time-management skills
• Ability to provide medical-surgical nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Ability to safely assist with patient mobility, transfers, and other physical-care requirements

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive physical, clinical, and psychosocial assessments for assigned patients
• Develop, implement, evaluate, and update individualized nursing plans of care
• Provide evidence-based medical-surgical nursing care for orthopedic and trauma patients
• Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with applicable standards, policies, and scope of practice
• Monitor patient responses to treatment and revise interventions based on clinical outcomes
• Coordinate patient care with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, recovery, and discharge needs
• Advocate for patient safety, privacy, dignity, and continuity of care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly
• Participate in quality-improvement activities and support a positive, collaborative medical-surgical unit environment
• Float to comparable units as needed to support patient-care operations
