Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. We welcome first-time travelers and locals, with some differences in rates.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive patient care, including medication administration and monitoring vital signs.
• Utilize telemetry and remote monitoring systems for patient assessments.
• Effectively interpret dysrhythmias and manage IV insulin protocols.
• Perform colostomy and feeding tube care and management.
• Assist in pre/post hemodialysis management and blood product administration.
• Conduct central line blood draws and manage peripheral line care.
• Perform phlebotomy and PICC line management.
• Initiate IV therapy and manage heparin and PCA protocols.
• Manage chest tubes and provide non-invasive airway management with CPAP/BiPAP.
• Utilize isolation precautions and provide wound care, including the use of wound vacs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
• Accepts first-time travelers.
• Valid BCLS certification required.
• Preferred skills include: MS/Tele, telemetry monitoring, accessing ports, CVA management, surgical drain care, and interpretation of ABGs.
• Experience with EPIC is a plus.

Work Environment

The nursing team will adhere to a target patient ratio of 1:5-6 and will work 12-hour shifts, with a typical schedule of 36 to 48 hours per week, contracted for 13-26 weeks.

All contract staff are expected to participate in a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and must be prepared to report for duty during catastrophic events or mass casualties.

Additional Information

• Requested time off (RTO) is limited to a maximum of 7 days.
• Floating to different units is required based on operational needs.
• Weekend work is expected, with a commitment of 12-16 shifts per contract.

Patient Populations

Candidates should be prepared to care for patients with diverse diagnoses, including dementia, diabetes, COVID-19, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleeding, anemia, and hip fractures.

Orientation and Training

Staff will receive 24 hours of unit orientation and must participate in hospital orientation during the first week. Continuous education classes will be scheduled daily during this training period.
