Facility Overview

This facility is a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is recognized as a Primary Stroke Center. It provides high-quality care across various specialized units.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional patient care in assigned units, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
• Manage patient assignments with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with expectations for turning patients, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), and other nursing care duties.
• Engage in teamwork alongside other healthcare professionals, including CNAs, Charge Nurses, and Telemetry Techs.
• Perform clinical procedures such as wound care, medication administration, chest tube management, and support in IV skills.
• Document patient care accurately within the electronic medical record system.

Unit Information

• 6 North Trauma Surgical:
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
  • Skills Required: Trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, IV skills.
• 5 South Neuroscience:
  • Beds: 33
  • Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizures, Spinal Fusions, Craniotomies.
  • Skills Required: IV starts, trach care, PEG tubes, wound care.
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology:
  • Beds: 39
  • High acuity, includes palliative care and ETOH withdrawal.
  • Skills Required: Chemo administration (certification preferred), wound care.
• 3 South Orthopedics:
  • Beds: 20
  • Patient Types: Joint replacements, fractures, spine surgeries.
  • Skills Required: PCA pumps, foley care, wound care.
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology:
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: Urology, ENT, orthopedic care.
  • Skills Required: Trach care, wound vac management, IV skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 months of experience in MedSurg and/or ICU preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records (Cerner or EPIC required).
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required.
• Telemetry experience is desirable; RNs must be able to interpret telemetry strips.

Orientation and Scheduling

• Travelers who are new or returning after more than one year will receive 48 hours of orientation, including both classroom and hands-on training.
• Scheduling includes rotating weekends and requires availability during holiday periods according to facility policy.
