Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join a 42-bed unit caring for a diverse mix of medical, surgical, and orthopedic patients. The unit follows a modern Virtually Integrated Care (VIC) dyad model, providing nurses with dedicated CNA support and a virtual nurse to enhance patient care and workflow.
Patient Care & Staffing Model
- RN ratio: 1:6–7
- CNA ratio: 1:6–7
- Virtual Nurse ratio: 1:30
- Nurses will have their own CNA support
- Virtual nursing support available to assist with patient care
- A 1:6 ratio is expected at least once per week
- Charge Nurse available on every shift and takes an assignment
Patient Population
The unit cares for:
- Medical patients
- Surgical patients
- Orthopedic patients
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care to Med/Surg patients
- Perform assessments, medication administration, and patient education
- Monitor patient conditions and recognize changes in clinical status
- Collaborate with physicians, CNAs, virtual nurses, RT, and other healthcare professionals
- Manage telemetry patients and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Heparin is the only routinely titratable drip
- Work effectively within the VIC/dyad care model
Unit Support
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Telemetry available on the floor
- Centralized Telemetry monitoring station
- CNAs available with a 1:6–7 ratio
- Virtual Nurse support with a 1:30 ratio
Schedule & Requirements
- Day: 6:30 AM–7:00 PM
- Night: 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
- Weekend requirement: As needed
- Holiday requirement: As needed
- No call or standby requirement
Floating
Travelers may be required to float to:
Floating will be based on hospital needs and the RN's clinical competency.
Orientation & Exam
- First week includes classroom orientation
- Followed by two 12-hour shifts on the floor
- RN must complete a Pass/Fail open-book exam on Friday covering skills learned during orientation
- All necessary resources are provided
- 90% minimum score required
- Failure to achieve 90% may result in termination of the contract
Important Compliance Requirements
- BLS required
- Driver's license required at submission and used to verify the 50-mile radius
- 50-mile radius rule applies
- Candidates cannot currently be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity
- Artificial nails are prohibited in patient-care departments; refusal to remove them may result in contract termination
- RTO must be submitted upfront
- Maximum 7 days of RTO allowed for a 13-week contract
- Additional RTO will not be approved after submission
