Description

GHG Healthcare is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Weirton, West Virginia.

Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Must work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5-7 on days, 1:6-8 on nights
• Must have a minimum of 1 year of nursing experience; first-time travelers will be accepted
• Required certifications: BLS, RN License
• Charting system: EPIC
• BSN not required
• RNs required to titrate drips including heparin, bumex, and lasix; no cardiac drip titration
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
• Respiratory therapy team manages breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and respiratory equipment such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow O2; RNs responsible for monitoring only
• Monitor techs located on level 5 read and monitor telemetry for all patients and notify nurses if issues arise; nurses not expected to read and interpret telemetry independently
• Scrub color requirement: Navy blue for RNs
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedule is managed by the unit manager with consideration for requested time off
• Rotating shifts spread across weeks; typically 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights, avoiding day/night shifts within the same week
• Travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent schedule
• May be floated to other Med Surg, Med Surg Telemetry, or Intermediate Care units for lower acuity patients
• Orientation consists of 1 day with educator and computer system training followed by 1 day with a preceptor
• Must include a copy of unexpired driver's license with submission; 50-mile radius rule applies
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission

This acute care facility operates a 48-bed unit providing comprehensive medical-surgical services to its patient population. The facility supports a multidisciplinary team approach including dedicated respiratory therapy staff, monitor technicians, and patient care technicians to ensure high-quality patient outcomes. The organization maintains structured scheduling and floating protocols to support consistent staffing across multiple units.
